SOLARIS X86 SOLUTIONS PacerShare and PacerPrint for Solaris x86 Pacer Software is now offering its PacerShare(R) and PacerPrint(R) software for Macintosh(R) file and print sharing in networks running SunSoft's Solaris(TM) x86 and Solaris SPARC(R) software environments. PacerShare is an AFP 2.1-compliant AppleShare(R) file server that simplifies the sharing of files and documents across heterogeneous enterprise networks. It allows a host system running Solaris operating software to act as a Macintosh file server. This enables Macintosh users to share files with users on other popular network operating systems, including Solaris, PC-NFS(R), NetWare(R) for UNIX(R) and LAN Manager(R) for UNIX. PacerPrint is a standard Solaris print spooling daemon which interfaces to Solaris print job queuing, status reporting and error handling routines. Macintosh users select PacerPrint spoolers in the Chooser, just as they would choose a LaserWriter(R). Print jobs sent to a PacerPrint spooler are processed at once, freeing the Macintosh from print-related delays. PacerPrint also allows Solaris users to print directly to PostScript(TM) printers on the AppleTalk(R) network, automatically converting text files into PostScript files. PacerShare and PacerPrint take full advantage of the power of the Solaris software environment, delivering high-performance scalable Macintosh file serving and flexible printer configuration and usage. These well integrated services allow customers to gain the most from Macintosh resources in an enterprise computing scheme. A Stable, Open Platform Solaris x86 is a powerful and versatile UNIX software environment for the Intel(R) x86 platform. Designed as a foundation for enterprise computing, it supports major industry standards and provides high-performance 32-bit UNIX multitasking, multithreading and multiuser capabilities. Solaris x86 is compatible with Solaris SPARC, ensuring full interoperability between the leading CISC (x86) and RISC (SPARC) platforms. And Solaris x86 is scalable from desktops to supercomputers, so that customers can configure heterogeneous enterprise networks and expand them easily as their computing needs evolve. Solaris x86 provides native ONC+(TM) technology-based LAN and WAN networking to support broadly distributed computing and system management. It includes powerful application and Graphical User Interface (GUI) development tools through the OpenWindows(TM) facility, and a rich suite of user productivity applications under DeskSet(TM). Numerous commercial third-party applications, including many Microsoft(R) Windows and DOS applications, run in the Solaris x86 environment. PacerShare and PacerPrint Features and Benefits * Integrated AppleTalk services: Allows a Solaris server to act as a file and print server for Macintosh LANs * Cross-platform integration: Allows Macintosh users to exchange files with PC servers such as PC-NFS, LAN Manager and NetWare for UNIX * Security: Access to PacerShare volumes and files conforms to Solaris login validation and file system protection * Ease of administration: PacerAdmin allows administrators to create, examine, modify and delete file server users, groups, volumes and spoolers from any Macintosh in the network, as well as monitor user logins, volume usage and print queue activity For more information on PacerShare and PacerPrint, contact Pacer Software, Inc., at 1900 West Park Drive, #280, Westborough, MA 01581-3919.
